Bollywood star Rani Mukherji, who has not had a good run at the box office since the critically acclaimed `Black' two years ago, says she is not a recluse.

"I am perceived to be as a recluse which I am not. I am a family oriented person and I like to spent time with my family when I am not working," she told reporters here last evening.

In an exclusive interview to BT, the vivacious but evasive actress Rani Mukerji shot down all rumours of a February 10, 2008 wedding to filmmaker Aditya Chopra at the Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur.

Giving her throaty laugh, Rani said, “How many times are they going to fix the day, venue, honeymoon, etc for me? The media might as well get the wedding cards printed and send me one. I’ll just show up for the event.”

She is the queen bee of Hindi Cinema. A distinguished actress, a tremendous performer and a very hard working professional, that’s Rani Mukerji. She has achieved a lot in life yet she approaches every film with the same childlike intensity. In her search for new challenges, she heard the script of Pardeep Sarkar’s Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and decided to go ahead with it.

After a brief hiatus and a spate of recent controversies, Rani Mukerji is back to hogging the limelight.

Ask her if she consciously decided to maintain a low profile all this while, she instantly retorts, “No not at all. It’s not a conscious decision. I’ve just been busy with my professional commitments – shootings, dubbing sessions, business meetings. Today the media intrusion is overwhelmingly high. A new tabloid or news channel is launched everyday and I’m certainly not the type of person who would want media attention all the time. I prefer not to say anything when there’s nothing to talk about. Also, I hardly attend parties or media events. I prefer staying at home, so people think I’m trying to avoid the media glare. Now that her latest flick is all set to release, I’m more than willing to talk and clarify everything.”

We have barely seen much of Rani Mukerji this year. But now, the actress has two big releases coming up: Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya. Ironically, both movies see her playing a sex worker.

Raman Kapoor caught up with Rani to know more about her movies, working with the Bachchans and her equation with Aishwarya Rai.
